Castle hold Bucks to a draw

The game got off to a slow start with little chances created from both sides until the 18th minute as Tyler Webster had a shot on goal but Tony Thompson comfortably handled the ball.

Nine minutes later Ben Hodkinson found the ball falling into his direction but his flicked shot only went over the bar. The miss would be costly as Jake Avery caught Tony Thompson off his line and his dinked effort put the hosts 1-0 ahead.

Ethan Vale attempted an effort on the edge of the box but the short went wide failing to double Newcastle Town’s lead. Up at the other end, Anthony Miley’s header hit the bar which was Bootle’s best effort of the first half.

Bootle first half got off to a great start as Conor Harwood’s header found it’s way past Joseph Sinn, giving them the equaliser they craved for.

Jay Roberts attempted a cross which successfully met Andy Scarisbrick but unfortunately his shot ended up wide and untroubled to Joseph Sinn.

The Newcastle Town keep quite literally saved his team a point in the dying stages of the game. Sinn had to stretch his whole body to tip Jay Cooper’s curled effort over the bar. He also kept out a brilliant left footed shot from used substitute Jack Lenehan, a magnificent display of goalkeeping whilst under the cosh.

The scoreline resulted in a 1-1 draw, but a massive improvement in terms of performance than we have seen of late. A change of shape and tactics didn’t seem to do Bootle any damage.
