After just sixteen minutes into play Ben Hodkinson finished an effort into the bottom far corner giving Bootle the lead after having their foot on the game early on. Five minutes later Jack Lenehan struck a free kick towards goal but Kidsgrove keeper made a good save to prevent Bootle from doubling their lead.

Courtney Duffus had the opportunity to put Bootle two ahead as he received a cross from Michael Simpson and proceeded to head the ball but his effort only fell wide. Just minutes later Simpson and Duffus again linked up as Simpson played Duffus through but Duffus hit his shot over the bar.

Just on the stroke of half time Kidsgrove managed to find an equaliser by way of a Jimmy Garlick header which send the travelling Kidsgrove fans into a burst of cheers. The first half resulted 1-1 despite Bootle being on top throughout the game.

Kingsley Adu Gyamfi had two opportunities to put Kidsgrove ahead within three minutes as first effort was denied by a fantastic save from Tony Thompson and his second shot was blazed over the bar despite being at close range. However, Adu Gyamfi would eventually get his goal as his shot went past Tony Thompson which led the away supporters to sing “we are staying up.”

After Kidsgrove were gaining their weight in the game, Bootle’s Tom Hannigan brought down Robbie Hatton in the Bootle area which led to the referee awarding a penalty and Kyle Diskin made the game 3-1 from the spot.

Bootle pulled one back as Kyle Campbell continued to carry on his form of being an impact sub for The Bucks as of late, this goal made the game a lot closer as Bootle stepped up a gear. Nathan Sandison took an effort to make the game level but his shot was only blocked and put out for a corner, Bootle were smelling blood.

Eventually, Bootle did get an equaliser with just a couple of minutes left as Tom Owens hit home his shot from close range past Kieran Harrison. Despite a push from Bootle, the game finished 3-3 and Kidsgrove Athletic survive to play the 2025/26 season in the Notthern Premier League Division West.
